I’m a little cranky because last night I had to watch my friend win a reality TV show. That’s a first. I’m so apoplectic with jealousy that today I was late for work, I’ve been extremely unproductive, and I’m snapping at my co-workers. Wait, that’s every day.

I went on a run outdoors for the first time this year. Even though it was painful because I’m so woefully out of shape, it was refreshing to be outside again. GEEK ALERT: I used the new GMap pedometer hack to trace a 2-mile route in my neighborhood, which I eventually hope to expand to 5K.

And to the dwindling number of my friends who are still reading Infinite Jest, I recommend not reading the Gately/Antitoi brothers/AFR scene (p. 475-489) immediately before going to bed, as I did last night, unless you want to have nightmares. GEEK ALERT: I can’t think of a single passage in literature that is simultaneously so violent, gruesome, heartbreakingly sad, beautiful, and transcendent—all while serving as an extremely pivotal moment in a novel. The “call-to-arms” at the top of p. 489 is the book’s midpoint, its fulcrum, the end of its longest sentence, and maybe even its thesis statement, and it gets me every time.

So many geek alerts today. Maybe I should have been on that show. That fucker.
