Today WXRT played the opening track from The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway by Genesis. Inside, I whooped for joy and indulged my inner prog-rock geek. Whenever people start to give me crap for liking Genesis, I suggest they check out The Lamb—not that they usually do. When Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, and the rest of them die and stand before the pearly gates of rock heaven, I think this album will help them gain admittance by outweighing shameful transgressions such as Mike & The Mechanics and the Tarzan soundtrack. After the song ended, the DJ noted that the album is 30 years old, which jolted me a little. I remember buying the double album (on two cassettes!) the summer before ninth grade, taking it over to Wes’, and listening to it all the way through with him. Every once in a while, usually at the beginning of the summer, I listen to it all the way through again. Genesis used to be great; I used to be fifteen. And there you have it.
