Let’s Get Vulnerable

I almost forgot that my blog turns six years old this month.

That’s a long time on the Internet, and an eternity in blogyears, yall.

Celebrate with me after the jump!

Here are some highlights from the past blogyear:

I eulogized Crystalaire Camp (1922-2007).

I received a visit from some very old friends.

I reminisced about winters past, while attempting to arrest my excessive fetishization of one year in particular.

I lodged a complaint with the University of Minnesota’s yoga fitness program.

I attended what was then, and remains, the best concert of 2008.

I achieved a kind of narrative transition.

I depicted myself as a young, future blogger.

I turned 32 and kept running.

I bit off way more than I could chew in the form of an online book club, which I will be surprised if I continue, much less finish, before this blog’s next birthday.

I barely paid attention to the Olympics.

I paid far too much attention to certain overwhelming events.

I attempted to come to terms with my complete and utter helplessness regarding the economy…

… and regarding fallen idols I knew personally and felt like I knew personally.

If the blog were able to smoke or drink, I would pony up for a good cigar or some beers!

I guess that means that it’s been about six years since I first learned the term blog. I learned it from you, and I still consider this to be the definitive blog. It’s also probably about the 2nd anniversary of me not needing to use finger quotation marks every time I say the word “blog”. Sorry, blog.

Jake, Sam here. Wondered if you have read the new RS article on DFW. Probably a stupid question, you analyze the media for a living… so you probably have done so.
Anyway, with all I have gone through in the last year, the DFW situation was kind of confusing for me to stomach as well, and I just wanted to let you know I’m still here and lurking on your blog every so often.
Hope all is well.
