Moon age fan club

Last night—or technically, this morning—The Unreasonables took the stage at Club Underground at about 12:15 for a late, late set. (Thanks for coming, Karen and Arlene.) The show was pretty unremarkable until our last song, when a youngish woman approached the stage.

It probably bears mentioning at this point that this woman had also been enthusiastically enjoying the previous band, to the point of pulling a barstool right up to the stage. And at this point it probably also bears mentioning that this woman was wearing jeans that were, by any reasonable account, too small, so that her butt crack and the Playboy bunny tattoo on her right cheek were on display for the entirety of the sparse crowd sitting behind her (more than one member of which crowd was doubled over with mirth and/or horror). One couldn’t fault her enthusiasm, however. She was into the music, whooping and frequently getting off the stool to dance in a fashion that was undoubtedly provocative, though not so much in the sense she probably intended.

Anyway, during our last song this woman came right up to the stage and looked directly between Dan and Scott at me, making direct eye contact that made me immediately uncomfortable and caused me to find extremely compelling and worthy of extreme visual scrutiny a great number of things on the floor. But every time I took a furtive glance back at this extremely enthusiastic woman, she was still looking straight at me, and after a short while was gesticulating in certain ways. She began alternately pointing at me and making the “come here” motion with her finger, then mouthing the words “YOU and ME” and then ministering to her own body with her hands in a way that I guess she must have found alluring.

Before our last song was over she had left the room. Dan said, into the mic, “Some people are so fickle with their affection,” and we encored with “Search And Destroy,” which I’d like to think was pretty well received by Karen and Arlene and the remaining three members of the audience.

Uh, I feel like I should weigh in on … this. All I can say is I wish I could have been there. (PS Anyone catch my Tom Wolfe shout out?)

kinda reminds me of that time when we played the infamous gig in Columbus where that girl got up on stage with us (drunkenly singing along to some song she didn’t even know, mind you) and asked Chris (while he was still on stage) if she could use his cell phone (!!??!). Then she took off with it while we were trying to load out. I believe that Chris was under the impression that she was hot (…gross) and that his friendly gesture would reel her in. Of course, we spent the next 45 minutes trying to get his cell phone back so that we could get on with sleeping in the hotel parking lot…in the van.
