What will one day become of us?
So I was listening to the new Scissor Sisters album last night and having that familiar can’t-quite-get-into-it-yet feeling you get when you first listen to a new album from an artist whose previous album(s) you pretty much want to marry, they’re so good. (This is especially true with sophomore albums.)
So nothing about this new one was really grabbing me until deep into the second side, when I heard “The Other Side” and had the following thought:
SWEET BABY JESUS THIS SONG IS GORGEOUS.
Then I tried to analyze the song as objectively as possible, and concluded that its appeal derives from the fact that it is reminiscent, for me, of two things:
1. Duran Duran
2. Everything that’s good and beautiful about the world.
You’ll know what I mean.

I noticed you are reading John McPhee. Have you read Annals of the Former World? I’ve been wanting to pick it up recently, but wanted to hear an opinion from someone first.

I have not. This is, shamefully, my first McPhee book, but I’ve always loved his New Yorker pieces. He’s one of those writers who can cause you to become fascinated with something you didn’t think you couldn’t care about, like river barges.

You are so right about that song. It completley changed my mood when it came on while I was listening to the CD at work. Corporate benefits never felt so decadent before.
